Galandou Diouf was born in
Saint-Louis
in a Muslim
family, spent his school years in a Catholic
establishment, started a career as a teacher
then as an office clerk.
In 1909, he became the first African elected
representative since the conquest, and represented
district council of Rufisque to the Regional
Council in Saint-Louis.
He fought for African equality, rebelled against
discrimination ; he contributed to the newspaper
"Démocratie", then
founded his own newspaper "Le Sénégal".
Blaise Diagne, whom
he favoured supplanted him quickly politically. |
