Ziguinchor, port river on the River
Casamance , was founded in 1645 by Portuguese
sailors and tradesmen.
The place became French in May 13, 1886, and turned
into a very prosperous shopping and agricultural
centre (groundnuts).
Chief town of Casamance, with a population of
almost 80,000 inhabitants, Ziguinchor is also
the starting point of tourist tours.
